Everything founders need to know — region-wide + country spotlights, backed with data and insight.

👋🏽 Intro

Hey friends! It’s Lolita from Ganas Ventures, currently on the Southeast Asia leg of our Ganas Global Tour. This living guide was shaped with early insights from ecosystem leaders at Accion, BNI Ventures, 500 Global, Dream Bigger, TIA, Conscious Ventures, Pollinate Impact, Indelible Ventures and our team at Ganas. We’ll keep evolving it as we meet founders, funders, and community builders across the region.

Why Southeast Asia? Spanning Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, and beyond, Southeast Asia is one of the world’s fastest-growing startup regions. It’s home to 660 million people, mostly young and mobile-first. Startups here raised $2.8 billion in 2024. The digital economy is booming, expected to hit $360 billion by 2026. Singapore leads the way, but Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and the Philippines are catching up fast with strong government support and growing tech talent. Fintech, climate tech, AI, and digital infrastructure are where the action’s at. Bottom line: Southeast Asia’s the place to be if you want to build startups that go global. • Investors: Discover rising startups, valuation arbitrage, and fundable trends
  • Ecosystem Builders: Learn where to build bridges whether via corporate pilots or hyper-local innovation hubs.

🌏 Region-Wide Analysis

  • 📈 Funding Growth: Southeast Asia raised $2.6B in VC funding in Q1 2025 (a 31% rebound from Q4 2024), driven by late-stage deals and Singapore’s strength, signaling early recovery and renewed investor confidence in tech and climate sectors. (Tech Collective SEA, Hyphen)
  • 🦄 Unicorns: 42 unicorns; aggregate unicorn valuations hit $92B (Lundgreens, Startupblink)
  • 👀 Sector Leadership: Fintech (~37% of VC flow), followed by SaaS, AI, and logistics (JPM, Tech Collective)
  • 🌱 Ecosystem Growth: Startup capital in Southeast Asia grew from roughly $100 million in 2010 to $6.5–8.2 billion per year by 2020, scaling more than 50× over the decade. (NBT, INSEAD)
  • 🌎 Global Ambitions: SEA startups increasingly target US customers and open offices in the Bay Area. (Business Insider)

💡 POV: Optimism is justified — strong track record (projected to reach $360 billion by 2026), smart sector bets (e.g., fintech, AI, green tech, and SaaS), and global scaling in motion.
